Our nation’s senior citizens deserve to feel secure, be well taken care of, and treated with respect. As our nation’s Baby Boomers continue to reach retirement age, we need to address how we care for our elders.

Defending Social Security & Other Federal Benefits:

Our nation’s workers have paid into Social Security and Medicare for decades with the assurance that they will receive these benefits upon retirement age. Many depend upon these benefits in order to survive financially throughout their senior years. Kansans have already experienced the detrimental effects that budget mismanagement can have on state-level programs, such as KanCare. Kansans, and Americans as a whole, have paid their fair share into these programs and should not be denied their benefits.

As your U.S. Representative, I would continue to defend benefits such as Social Security and Medicare.

Advocating for Higher Quality & More Affordable Senior Housing:

One of the main concerns of seniors is how they will afford to live and what quality of housing they can expect given fixed incomes, inflation, and increasing medical costs. As more of the population ages, this will become a larger issue to solve for society as a whole.

As your U.S. Representative, I would advocate for our government to design and implement programs to address senior housing needs, potentially adding subsidizing financial programs to help elders pay for quality private sector housing options.

Lowering the Costs of Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals:

The cost of healthcare and pharmaceuticals continues to increase each year for all Americans. In addition, the need for healthcare and pharmaceuticals increases as we age, these increases are not always covered by Medicare or Medicaid. However, social security payments have not kept up with these types of cost of living increases that seniors often face. Many senior citizens have to make decisions between the healthcare and pharmaceuticals they need and paying for other basic needs such as food and rent. We need to address these issues in order to ensure that our seniors have comfortable financial, emotional, and physical retirements in their golden years.

As your U.S. Representative, I would work to address increases in healthcare and pharmaceutical costs.
