EMPLOYING OUR WORKERS
Transforming Kansas into THE Advanced Manufacturing Center of the Country:
Kansas has long been home to innovation and technological breakthroughs. From the earliest days of Clyde Cessna, Walter Beech, and Lloyd Stearman’s companies, Kansas has continued to be the birthplace of new technology and high-paying manufacturing jobs. Kansas already has a well-trained labor force, thanks to the aviation sector. As available, this talent can be retrained or redirected for new advanced manufacturing industries recruited to the area, such as the relatively new Siemens Wind Turbine Nacelle plant in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Wichita is also home to one of only five composite clusters in the world, led by the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). While the institute specializes in aviation composites, NIAR is responsible for 70% of all FAA composite research. This expertise can be used in many other industries. The Center for Innovative Biomaterials in Orthopedic Research, for example, is using central Kansas’ experience with composites to revolutionize medical devices.
It is my vision to expand upon our traditions of innovation and manufacturing to transform Kansas into THE advanced manufacturing center of the United States.
Diversifying Economic Sectors to Bring in New Employment Opportunities:
In addition to the advanced industry sector, diversifying economic opportunities within Kansas is another major goal when serving Kansas as a U.S. Representative. Encouraging companies to relocate to our state would provide significant new job choices for the citizens of Wichita and Kansas as a whole.
As your U.S. Representative, I would work at the local, state, and national levels to create a strategy for diversifying the current economic opportunities in Kansas.
Encouraging Entrepreneurship & Growth of Small-to-Medium-Sized Companies:
Entrepreneurs and small-to-medium-sized companies are the main drivers of a healthy economy and new employment opportunities. As an entrepreneur myself, I understand the difficulties facing those trying to start and grow new companies. With local and state government, I will help design economic programs and grants to enable entrepreneurs and small-to-medium-sized companies succeed.
Together, we can restore Kansas as a center of creativity and entrepreneurship.
Enabling Infrastructure Improvements & Development:
Unfortunately, current state fiscal policies have nearly abandoned our current infrastructure and left new development as a dream unfulfilled.
In order to attract, build, and maintain new business and job opportunities, Kansas must have state-of-the-art infrastructure to support expanded economic activity. As your U.S. Representative, I would work to secure federal funds to upgrade existing transportation and communications infrastructure and build new services as part of an overall economic development plan.
